Investigation Date: 08-23-2008
Site: Private Residence
Location: St. Paul, MN
Number of Investigations: 1
Evidence: EVP’s

Reason for Investigation Request

TCPS received information about this case on our message board from the owner. The site is a 4-plex and the owner currently lives there with her three children. The owner has lived at this location for a little over a year.

The owner stated the first activity she experienced at her house was when she came home late one night. She had pulled up by the house and glanced up at one of the windows of her apartment and there was a little girl standing in front of a window. The little girl did not look familiar to her and she knew it was not any of her children. The person with the owner at the time also saw the supposed apparition as well.

Other activity reported by the owner and her family is hearing the sound of a young child crying and seeing a man with a little dog walk from the front door to one of the back rooms of the apartment. There was no man or dog at or living in the apartment at this time. The owner states she has captured the sound of a dog barking on an EVP recording too that can not be explained. Other EVP’s the owner has captured have revealed a few different names being stated on the recorder and the sound of a large animal running around one of the bedrooms. They claim to have had no animals in the house at the time of that recording. The closet door in the living room has shut by itself and the owner states one of the bathroom handles has been seen and heard wiggling up and down by itself when no one was near the door. The owner’s cousin has had her hair pulled and has heard voices in the apartment as well when no one else was around. The owner, her family and other tenants in the 4-plex have also stated they have smelled what they describe as a “fire” scent in the main hallway/stairway of the property.

Research and Background on the Property

We were not able to find much research regarding this property. The 4-plex was built in 1948 and we did find out that the building did have a fire break out at one point in time but could not find a date for when the fire occurred. There were some renovations done to the building from 2005-2006 to turn the house into the 4-plex. The owner claims that the house was used as a Halfway House for alcoholics and was told by someone that a person was murdered on the property as well. We could not find any reports or documents to substantiate either of those claims.

Investigation Details

Weather Conditions
Temperature: 62°F
Dew Point: 53.0°
Wind: 12 mph
Moon: 49% Full

TCPS had six members participate in this investigation. We split the investigation into two rounds with three people on the first round, four on the last. For both rounds of investigation the owner and two of her family members were present as well. It should also be noted that during the entire night of the investigation rounds, there were numerous people hanging out both inside and outside on the property.

Before the first round of investigation began, the team heard what sounded like something drop and roll on the floor from the bedroom off the kitchen area. Two members investigated the room immediately and did not find anything on the floor nor out of place to explain the noise they heard. At one point in the living room, one of the investigators felt pressure on their leg as they sat on the bed. Nothing was near the investigator when this happened and no further cause for the pressure could be found. While investigating the bedroom off the kitchen, the group saw what they described as sparkling lights all throughout the room. The lights did not appear to be from any source outside or any reflections from an object in the room.

The second round of investigation did not yield many personal experiences or activity. A few of teams saw shadows in two of the bedrooms of the apartment. Explanations for these shadows could not be found as they seemed to disappear quickly once they were noticed. One member did state the shadow she saw was the outline of a man standing by one of the bedroom doors. The only male in the room at the time was sitting on the floor. While investigating the living room, one of the groups felt a cold spot while sitting on the couch. The cold spot was just a very slight/light breeze and there was not much of a temperature fluctuation at all. The cold spot lingered for quite a while, and even after moving the couch and trying to find a source for the breeze one could not be found.

Final Analysis

Even though our team was able to capture a few EVP’s from this residence, due to the acoustics of the home and the individuals outside being picked up on the recorders much of the investigation and evidence was contaminated. We do not feel the evidence itself and the few personal experiences and activity from that night warrant enough to say the house is haunted. TCPS is willing to go back and try the investigation again when we can hopefully have fewer people both inside and outside of the building and apartment. We will keep you updated if this should happen.
